“We are putting Mother Nature on notice.” This is a statement made by a meteorologist on the weather channel this morning while talking about progress on “climate control.” Sadly, more people will believe this statement than will believe: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils,” 1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV). We all know that God may use men (people) and angels to work for Him. Those who do so are to be in constant communication with Him – both in person and with His written Word – so that when they speak they are following 1Peter 4:11 – “if anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
I think we can safely say that satan and his ministers (yes, the same definition applies to satan’s emissaries as to God’s) follow the same type of procedures manual as God and His ministers; they just have a different
message.
Satan’s main goal in these last days, I believe, is to be “seeker friendly.” In other words, to preac his doctrines in a manner that will appeal to his listeners. So, if a person tends to be “religious” guess what kind of message he is going to hear? satan is going to preach his atheistic, e.g., message to someone to whom he thinks it will appeal.
Listen to the effects of one of satan’s primary messages: 2 Peter 3:3-4 – “Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” In other words, ‘why can’t I do what I want to do, whenI want to do it? I’ve heard all my life that
Jesus is coming back but I don’t believe it because everything is just like it always has been.’
But hear the voice of God in 2 Timothy 3:1-5: “But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come – for men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power. Avoid such men as these.”
God is giving us ample and clear warning of the fulfillment of His promise that He is coming back for us. If there were not another verse of warning in the Bible these five should be adequate to get the message across. Think of twenty people that you know well, and then tell me how many do NOT fit into at least one of these categories. As much as it hurts to articulate, many – if not most --church members still maintain
some of these attitudes.
In Luke 1:20, God is talking about Israel: “And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.” Have you listened to the news lately? Is not Jerusalem completely surrounded by enemies? Can He be much more succinct than this? Are you listening?
How about the weather? Have you noticed some changes lately? Joel 2:30-31: “And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.” NASA has made predictions that this will happen in 2014 and 2015.
And earthquakes ! According to the US Geological Survey there were 2,342 earthquakes in the US during 2000. During 2010 there were 8,496! Luke 21:11: “And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and
famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” Space does not
permit discussing all that Jesus told us would happen prior to His return, but you know many of them, with probably one of the most important – deception. Matt 24:4 “…take heed that no man deceive you.” Then, He warns us about betrayal and hatred, false prophets, the abundance of lawlessness, wars and rumors of wars, famine, pestilences, decreasing love, and many more. To those who are not expecting Christ to come
back for His own (Rev. 3:3 “Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.”) this can sound somewhat depressing; but there is comfort: 1 Thess.4: 16-18: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
